Guitar Lessons: More on Picking Technique

It seems that no matter how many posts or videos I do on this, I’m still getting questions about anchoring. Of course, I’m happy to answer any questions, but I think that at least some of them could be answered by another video…

Django Reinhardt- Jazz picking master!

…so here it is! I explain the physical processes behind picking and strumming technique as well as some of the things to avoid (and why!). As I say at the end of the video, I’m not trying to “force” my technique onto anyone, and I’m not the sort of person who just goes “I’m right, and that’s that!”. I really try to take a logical approach to guitar technique, giving my reasons for one particular method over another- and you should too!

So how is your picking technique? Hopefully this video has given you something to think about as I explain just why I pick (or strum) the way I do. How do you pick? If you were to take an honest look at just what you do, and why you do things that way when you play (just like I’m breaking down my own technique in the video), could you justify your technique? More importantly, could you possibly improve it?
